The Magic School Bus

or field trips for international students.

Almost a year ago Emily and some friends

(here they are practicing)

qualified to present at the Global Issues Network conference this past October in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  She was super excited because it meant a trip to Argentina!

Something unique in International schools is that travel is common even to different countries.  The school sports teams compete against other International schools in South America.  Emily has friends that have traveled to New York City just for drama class and Ireland for Model United Nations.  The 8th graders at her school take a trip to Machu Picchu each year.  Not exactly like a trip to the zoo via school bus since an airplane is involved.

When she arrived in Buenos Aires,

that night a tour guide took her and the group of students and teachers to a Milonga where they ate and had tango lessons.

The next day they took a bus ride to Río de la Plata where they then took a motor boat to a small resort down the river. Once at the resort, they kayaked down the river and back up for a few hours.

That night they ate at a fancy restaurant that fed them famous Argentinian beef.

The next day the conference began at Lincoln High School, the American school of Buenos Aires.

The conference lasted 3 days and involved key note speakers from important NGO leaders and environmentalists, presentations by the students, and more tango lessons and a band performance by the teachers. Emily presented the second day with 4 other girls. Their presentation was about how the NGO Crea+ can be used as a solution to the global issues of education and poverty in South America.

(I promise Emily is in the lower right side of this photo.)
